Course Management & Design


As an instructor, managing an instructional process can usually be regarded as a standard approach to facilitate learning through activities and assessments, communication, and collaboration. Fortunately, the Blackboard system enables efficient instructional management through a robust set of tools and techniques. In this workshop, you will learn how to identify, manipulate and use standard course management tools in Blackboard, including course settings, the grade book, the assignment drop box, an assessment manager, student tracking, a group manager, and selective release of assignments, assessments, and activities. This workshop format is presentational, with an opportunity for questions and answers, and time to practice with guided activities to facilitate your understanding.

Workshop Objectives:

After completing the workshop, participants should be able to:

  • identify the full set of Bb course management tools for instruction
  • identify course management tools which facilitate organization, structure, and visual layout
  • manipulate Bb course management tools by managing settings for desired behaviors
  • distinguish between individual tool settings and resulting system behaviors
  • manipulate the grade book, student groups, selective release of course tools
  • apply appropriate instructional management techniques to facilitate teaching and learning
